Debian 11 Bullseye Download Now, Debian GNU / Linux 11 Bullseye is a free operating system based on the Linux kernel, equipped, among other things, with the tools of the GNU project. It was launched in August 1993 by the late Ian Murdock and has been actively developed since then. It is also the last major distribution that is not affiliated with any company and is being developed completely independently.
Debian GNU / Linux 16th official edition
After the preliminary versions RC1 from April 23rd and RC2 from June 14th, 2021, the Debian release team today Debian 11 Bullseye Download .iso released the next version of the universal operating system with GNU / Linux Debian 11 »Bullseye«. This is the 16th official edition of the distribution, which appears every two years on average. The approximately 1,000 official developers underline the universality of Debian with the support of nine architectures this time:
- 32-bit PC (i386) und 64-bit PC (amd64)
- 64-bit ARM ( arm64 )
- ARM EABI ( armel )
- ARMv7 (EABI hard-float ABI, armhf )
- little-endian MIPS ( mipsel )
- 64-bit little-endian MIPS ( mips64el )
- 64-bit little-endian PowerPC ( ppc64el )
- IBM System z (s390x)
Support for Mips 32-bit CPUs will be dropped with Debian 11.
The first thing users will notice about Debian 11 is the new theme Homeworld by Juliette Taka, which is the third time she has won a competition for the artwork of a Debian release. Homeworld is a theme that is inspired by the Bauhaus movement, an art style that emerged in Germany in the 20th century and is characterized by its unique approach to architecture and design. Taka said: “Since architecture and design are at the heart of creating software, I wanted to create a bridge between this art style and Debian.”
More than 11,000 new packages in Debian 11 Bullseye
Debian 11 is shipped with the current LTS kernel 5.10. The publication again contains a lot more software than its predecessor »Buster«; the distribution contains over 11,290 new packages for a total of 59,551 packages. Most of the software in the distribution has been updated: over 42,820 software packages (that’s 72% of all packages in “Buster”). In addition, a significant number of packages (9,519, 16% of the packages in “Buster”) have been removed from the distribution for various reasons. The release consists of 1,152,960,944 lines of code and a total of 6,208 people contributed to it.

GNOME 3.38.5 und Plasma 5.20 in Debian 11 Bullseye
In the desktop environment, Debian 11 is shipped with GNOME 3.38.5, among others. For the more conservative Debian developers, it was still too early for GNOME 40. This will be welcomed by many users who are not yet able to get used to the new operating scheme. On the hand, KDE other Plasma is with 5.20 at a relatively current level . LXDE 11, LXQt 0.16, MATE 1.24 and Xfce 4.16 are the other desktops offered. In the Office packages, LibreOffice has been updated to 7.0, while Calligra is shipped in version 3.2. Other updated packages are GCC 10.2, LLVM / Clang 9.0.1 and 11.0.1, Apache 2.4.46, Nginx 1.18, MariaDB 10.5, PHP 7.4, Perl 5.32, OpenSSH 8.4p1, OpenJDK 11, Python 3.9.1, Samba 4.13, Vim 8.2, Gimp 2.10.22 and Inkscape 1.0.2.

Printing without a driver
Driverless printing and scanning for Bullseye will be further accelerated by the new package
ipp-usbthat the manufacturer-neutral IPP-over-USB protocol is used, which is supported by many modern printers. This allows a USB device to be treated like a network device, extending driverless printing to USB-attached printers. The provides practical guidance Debian Wiki .
Increased password security
With Debian 11, password security is supposed to offer better protection against dictionary-based attacks for guessing passwords. The SHA512_Crypt, which was previously used as the standard encryption algorithm, is now being replaced by a much more modern and secure process called yescrypt , which is also to be used in Fedora 35 . And this is explicitly incompatible with all of the preceding, which is why Debian recommends local passwords via the command
passwdto set anew.
With the file systems, exFAT receives native support from the kernel for the first time, which is expressed in a simpler mounting without FUSE. The new package
exfatprogsalso allows the creation of exFAT partitions. In Bullseye, systemd uses control groups v2 by default, which provides a unified hierarchy for resource control. Kernel parameters are available to reactivate the old cgroups variant if necessary. And speaking of systemd: It activates the permanent journal function by default in Bullseye and saves its log files in / var / log / journal / . The new command
openis now a convenient alternative to the previous standard
xdg-openavailable and via the
Non-free firmware better supported
I already two weeks ago how the switch from Debian 10 to 11 is going described . Anyone who installs a new installation will benefit from a new feature in the installer that is intended to facilitate installation on modern hardware. In addition to the improved documentation about non-free firmware , the Debian 11 installer can automatically install the firmware delivered there for the unofficial installer images. An assignment of the hardware ID to firmware files is used to detect whether the hardware found requires firmware. Bullseye is the last Debian release that
apt-keycontains. Instead, key management should be done using files stored in
Debian 12 development starts today
As usual, images for fresh installations are available as live media for testing and as installers on Debian’s download server . Bullseye Docker images can be found on the Docker hub . While Bullseye is only just beginning its journey, the names of its two successors have already been determined. Debian 12 will be called “Bookworm” and will probably be released in 2023, while Debian 13 is expected for 2025 and will be nicknamed “Trixie”. The release notes describe the changes in detail.
Debian LTS for Debian 10
With the release of Debian 11, the development of Debian 12 »Bookworm« begins in the testing branch at the same time. Incidentally, that doesn’t mean that Debian 10 “Buster” is no longer supported. Debian supports the previous version for at least twelve months after a new release before it is given to the LTS and eLTS teams for further maintenance .
