Today in this quick tutorial we’re going to learn how to install the latest version of mesa graphic driver on Ubuntu Linux, or upgrade your older mesa driver into latest point release, let me first introduce;
What is Mesa Driver ?
The Mesa Drivers project started out as an open source application in the OpenGL specification. It is a system for providing interactive 3D graphics also called Mesa3D. Over the 25+ years in the Linux and open source industry, the mesa drivers project has expanded to implement more graphics APIs such as OpenGL ES, OpenCL, OpenMax, VDPAU, VA API, XVMC, Vulcan, EGL, etc. These are various device drivers for the Mesa library. Mesa drivers are open source API Implementation for AMD and Intel vendor graphics

Well so lets get turning to the today’s point, how to install mesa drivers on Ubuntu, well mesa comes preinstalled on but sometimes not with the latest version.
check your mesa drivers version using following command :
glxinfo | grep Mesa
Install Mesa Drivers on Ubuntu Linux step by step :
The Kisak-table PPA provides Repository always provide latest point release of Mesa 3D drivers, use following command and install the latest version mesa ;
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kisak/kisak-mesa
sudo apt update sudo apt install mesa
Remove latest version and go back to original Mesa Driver :
If you have any issues or bugs in latest version and do not want to use the latest version of Mesa, you can revert and go back to the original version.
Install PPA Purge tool first:
sudo apt install ppa-purge
And then using this tool to remove the PPA repo and Mesa driver package.
sudo ppa-purge ppa:kisak/kisak-mesa
